The closing ceremony of the IX International Festival of Short Films was held at the International Mugam Center on November 17.
The festival was held within the framework of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On celebrating the 120th anniversary of Azerbaijani cinema”.
The organizers of the festival are the Ministries of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Cinema Center “Cinema”. The Youth Foundation of Azerbaijan, Guild of Azerbaijan Producers, Nizami Cinema Center, CinemaPlus cinema network have supported the festival.
Director of the festival Fehruz Shamiyev delivered a speech at the ceremony. He noted that the festival was intended for the competition and demonstration of 35-minute short films of directors. 490 short films from 45 countries were presented at the festival. According to the decision of the selection committee consisting of three members designated by the Organizing Committee, 100 films from 30 countries have competed in the international and local competition for the Golden Pomegranate. 72 of them are included in the international competition program. The winners were judged by members of the international jury – Ayaz Salayev (Azerbaijan), Kambuzia Partovi (Iran), Gulbara Tolomushova (Kyrgyzstan), Tobias Buhner (Germany) and Zahra Badalbeyli (Azerbaijan).
It was noted that the election commission included 28 films in the local contest section of the festival. The winners of the competition were selected by three jury – Mirbala Salimli, Ilgar Fahmi, Javid Tavakkul.
Then the names of the winners were announced. “Best feature film”, “Best Documentary”, “Best Animated Film”, “Best Experimental Film” for the nomination “Golden Pomegranate” of the International Competition. They are “Toprak” by Turkish director Onur Yagiz, “Real Love” by Iranian director Iman Behruz, German film director Jonatan Schwenk, “Sog”, Turkish film director Alican Durbash “Soil”.
The winners of the local contest were the “Best Feature Film” on “The Best” by Parviz Gulmammadov on “The Son”, “Best Documentary” by Emil Ali on “Adam”, “Best Director” by Orkhan Adigozalov “One Second”, “Best Screenplay” Kerim’s “Sonar” and “Best Operator” were selected as “Memory” by Elvin Ahmedoglu.
Later the winners of the competition were awarded.
