The names of the films that will compete in the International Competition Program of the IX International Short Film Festival to be held in Baku on 14-17 November have been determined.
The festival organized by the Center for Young Cinematographers “SINEMA” is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since this year, the Guild of Producers of Azerbaijan also participates in the festival as organizational support.
This year, the festival, further expanding coverage area, will be attended by representatives from 45 countries with 490 films (Azerbaijan, France, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Turkey, Iran, Russia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Macedonia, Belgium, Poland, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Cameroon, Netherlands, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Austria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden , Finland). The number of films submitted for the International Competition was 405.
The films were watched by the Selection Commission consisting of three persons appointed by the Organizing Committee of the Festival and included in the competition programs.
Under the decision of the Election Commission, 100 films will compete for the Golden Pomegranate at the International and Local Contest. 72 films (41 artworks, 15 documentaries, 11 animations, 5 experimental) compete in the international competition.
The Organizing Committee has increased the number of nominations, taking into account the plurality and quality of films in the International Competition. Thus, the winners of the competition, along with the nominations “The Best Feature Film”, “Best Documentary”, “Best Animated Film”, “Best Experimental Film”, “Jury Prize” will compete for “Best Feature Film Director” Best Documentary Film Director “,” Best Animated Film Director “,” Best Experimental Film Director “nominations.
An international jury consisting of 5 persons will evaluate films at an international competition.
The goal of the “START” International Short Film Festival, which gives a minimal discount and maximum appreciate talent, is to watch and discuss movies, to evaluate the best of them, to introduce local authors with world practice and new trends.
At the same time, the festival, which focuses on the young cinematography and its problems in the country, enables the Azerbaijani youth to identify the future trends in cinema.
“START” is also the starting point for local directors to build relationships with foreign colleagues. Thus, the visit of foreign directors to our capital within the framework of the festival has already become a tradition.
